tyler's roadtrip.

So last week some time, I saw a bulletin or someting from Tyler Hilton announcing that he was going to be road tripping from LA to Nashville. No big deal. The cool thing was that he was asking for fans who lived near I-40 to send in their requests for him to play at their houses along the way. Here is the news item posted on his web site.

I thought this was cool for a couple reasons:
1) It seemed really inpromptu. It didn't feel like someone at a label had a great idea and it went through the chains to get implemented. It felt like Tyler himself had the idea and called someone and was like, "What if..." Now, I don't know if that's really what happened or not, but that's what it FELT like, and that's what matters. Spontaneous = genuine.
2) It allows Tyler to look like the good guy. He was reaching out to his fans in a personal way. Always a good thing.
3) It intrigues even those who aren't involved directly. I live in Nashville, so Tyler plays here a lot (tonight, even). Even if I lived right on I-40, I probably wouldn't have the guts to invite him to my house. BUT since they told fans that you could go back to his web site to see pictures, videos, etc. they are allowing those who don't get a living room concert to participate, which is always a plus. The delivery made me want to see how those living room concerts turned out.

Well, so far, no sign of a living room concert, but they did post this nifty Google Map with links to his Flickr account. It looks like most of it was posted before he even left, so maybe they have some updating to do. He was just due to arrive back in Nashville today. I hope he was able to play at least a few fans' houses. It's just a fun idea - not something that happens every day.

(Except one girl I kind of know through cyber space who has had multiple artists play in her living room. Weird.)
